7 Days Itinerary to Kilimanjaro Climbing Machame Route

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport where you will be met and assisted with our professional driver who will drive you to Arusha Gran Melia Hotel for Overnight  and Dinner on BB( Bed and Accommodation:

DAY 1: ARUSHA – MACHAME GATE 1,830–MACHAME CAMP 3,030

After breakfast our Driver will pick you up from your hotel with packed lunch and drive you to mount

Kilimanjaro National Park Entrance Gate (Machame Gate 1,830m) Driving time is 1hour from Arusha to Machame Gate. On the way from Arusha if the Sky will be clear you will start see the Mount Kilimanjaro from far with its top shining like a moon hence good time for photos. Not on Kilimanjaro But also on the way will see Mount Meru as well. The journey passes through the village of Machame which is located on the lower slopes of the mountain and here is where a tribe known as Chagga Lives under the roof of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Banana Trees and Coffee trees  seen here too! Arriving at the gate around 910 in the morning where you will have gate formalities and producing your park entrance permit. We now leave the park gate and walk through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge. Lower down, the trail can be muddy and slippery. Gaiters and trekking poles are a good idea here. We continue a distance of 11km walked for 5-7hours from Machame gate until we reach the Machame Camp 3030m abave the sea Level.

Elevation: 1811m/5942ft to 3021m/9911ft

Altitude gained: 1210m

 

DAY 2: MACHAME CAMP 3030M TO SHIRA CAMP 3850

After breakfast, we leave the glades of the rain forest together with our team of Professional Guide and Potters who will be carrying your staffs and food then we continue on an ascending path, crossing the little valley walking along a steep rocky ridge, covered with heather, until the ridge ends. The route now turns west onto a river gorge. Distance walked on this day is 5km for about 4 – 6hours from Machame

Camp Shira Camp Time for rest, dinner, and overnight at the Shira campsite 3030m above the sea Level.

Elevation: 3021m/9911ft to 3839m/12,595ft

Altitude gained: 818m

 

DAY 3: SHIRA CAMP 3030M TO LAVA TOUR – BARRANCO CAMP 3985

After breakfast we leave from Shira Camp we continue to the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.” Shortly after the tower, we come to the second junction which brings us up to the Arrow Glacier at an altitude of 16,000ft. We now continue down to the Barranco Hut at an altitude of 13,000ft. Here we rest, enjoy dinner, and overnight. Although you end the day at the same elevation as when you started, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day. Covered distance is 10km walking for 6 – 8hours.

Altitude gained: 147m

 

DAY 4: BARANCE CAMP 3,985 TO KARANGA CAMP

This day known as acclimatization day because despite that you will be walking in a very steed ridge but is for a short time. You will leave Barranco soon after breakfast and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall, to the Karanga Valley campsite. You will arrive there for Lunch. After lunch you will have enough hours for rest or just roaming around Karanga Camp and give your body enough energy for Summit the day after tomorrow. Distance for this day from Barranco Camp to Machame camp is 5km walked for 4-5hours. Dinner and Overnight at Karanga Camp 3,985 Above the sea Level. Elevation: 3986m/13,077ft to 4034m/13,235ft

Altitude gained: 48m

 

DAY 5: KARANGA CAMP 3,985 – BARAFU CAMP 4,040M

After breakfast, leave Karanga and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue up to the Barafu Hut. At this point, you have completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here we make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are to be seen from this position. Today we cover 4km and walk for 4 hours from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp 4040m above the sea Level. We arrive at Barafu for Lunch. After lunch you will have another day to more time for relaxing and give the body enough energy for summing.

Altitude gained: 628m

 

DAY 6: BARAFU CAMP 4040M – SUMMIT 5,895 M – MWEKA 3,820M

Very early in the morning (midnight to 2am), we continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. At  Stella Point (18,600 ft.), you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see (weather permitting). From Stella Point, 7 Days Itinerary to Kilimanjaro, you may encounter snow all the way on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. At Uhuru Peak.

You have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit. From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You will want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep. Walking distance is 12km walking hours for hiking to the summit is 7-8hours while descending to Mweka Camp is 4 -6hours. Elevation: 4662m/15,295ft to 5895m/19,341ft

Altitude gained: 1233m

 

Descent to 3106m/10,190ft

Altitude lost: 2789m

 

DAY 7: MWEKA CAMP 3,820 – MWEKA GATE 2,830KM

After breakfast, we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate. Here for those who managed to reach the summit will be awarded certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). From the gate, you continue another hour to Mweka Village where you will meet your car waiting for you ready for transfer back to Arusha for your own arranged hotel for Dinner and Overnight. From Mweka Camp to Mweka Village is 10km walked for about 3-4hours.

DAY 8: DEPARTURE DAY

The day is left free to wind down after the climbing before your flight home. Depending on flight times you could go and explore Arusha town and grab some souvenirs before heading to the airport.
