The word “Serengeti” literally means endless plains in the Masai dialect and this will be visible during the flight as you will watch the grassland stretch out as far as the eye can see and eventually merge the sky at the horizon hence creating a breathtaking view. Extending for over 5700 square miles, Serengeti is one of the largest National Parks in Africa and also shelters the Big 5 (lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, and buffaloes).
The central part of Serengeti, known as Seronera area is one of the Park’s most endowed wildlife habitats and shelters the Seronera River that provides an essential source of water to the area hence attracting wildlife that represent majority of the Serengeti’s species. Here, travelers are treated to views of lion prides, the Serengeti “Kopjes” which are massive boulders of granite standing in a sea of grass and these are known for being hot spots for cheetahs. This great migration sometimes moves towards the Lobo valley, scattered with savannah plains, woodlands, hills, and Kopjes and known for its big cats such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs.
